Different Biker Patches

A biker patch or "colour" is usually sewn on a vest made of leather or denim to denote the biker's group, organization or gang. These sacred patches are worn with honor and may contain secret symbols that say things about the group or the individual wearing it.

There are basically 3 types of biker patches which come in one, two or three pieces. The one-piece patch symbolizes a motorcycle organization such as Harley Owners Group (H.O.G) and Honda Riders Club. Two-piece patches are usually used by riding clubs or may symbolize a motorcycle club awaiting the transition to be a full three-piece outlaw club. The three-piece patches symbolize an outlaw motorcycle gang.

Biker patches basically have three parts; the top rocker, the bottom rocker, and the group or gang emblem in the middle. The two crescent shaped rockers display the name of the club on the top and the place or region of the group on the bottom. Sometimes the word M.C. is placed beside the emblem or rocker to note that it is a Motorcycle Club.

Different Biker Patches

In 1947, the American Motorcycle Association stated that "99% of all of their members are law-abiding citizens and only 1% are Outlaw" following a violent incident in Hollister, California. This gave birth to the One Percenters or Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs. These clubs cut their one piece patches into three to distinguish themselves from the rest of the law-abiding groups. A diamond shaped 1% patch may also be worn with the three piece patch. To show that they are the outlawed 1%.

Biker patches may have a hundred meanings and their symbols can stand for anything. Usually, only bona fide members of the group truly know the meaning behind these emblems. Here are some common symbols and their meanings.

1% - as stated by the AMA, these are the unrecognized outlaw motorcycle groups.

13 - this is used to symbolize the letter M which may stand for several meanings including motorcycle, marijuana, methamphetamine, or a secret meaning only known to the members.

It may also mean "12 jurors and a judge" which symbolizes that they can be judged by nobody. We are our own judge and jurors.

9er - symbolizes that the biker has Native American blood since the 9th letter in the alphabet is I.

Ace of spades - this is a symbol for the bringer of death. It means the rider is willing to kill for the group. Or perhaps he has already.

Bad Influence - shows that the biker is a mad man.

DILLIGAF - this is an acronym for "Do I Look like I Give a F***"

FF - forever, forever is used with the group's title in the beginning and end, as in the Hell's Angels' A.F.F.A. and the Sons of Silence's S.F.F.S.

Flags - may be used to denote the group's location or origin.

ITCOB. - this is an acronym for "I Took Care of Business"

MC or MCC- this is an acronym for "Motorcycle Cycle Club"

Men of Mayhem - badges or pins given to members who have killed in the name of the group.

Nomad - used on the bottom rocket denoting a person of no particular address. Only a few can truly live to this title.

Skull and Crossbones - the patch stands for "Respect Few, Fear None". In some cases, the cross bones are replaced by swords.

It may also show that the member has killed someone for the group.

Swastika and Nazi symbols - these does not necessarily mean that the bikers are Nazi, rather, they show that they reject the rules of society.

Wings - these are usually used to show achievements. They may sometimes hold a sexual meaning but these are mostly believed to be jokes.

Red wings shows the biker had oral sex with a menstruating female.

Green wings shows the biker had sexual intercourse with a woman with a sexually transmitted disease.

Yellow wings shows the biker drank a woman's urine.

Purple wings shows the biker had sexual intercourse with a corps

Patches may also show the position of a biker in the gang. This may include president, vice president, secretary and sergeant-at-arms. For outlaw groups, it can only be worn in the territory and has to be surrendered when the biker leaves the group.

No matter what the meaning, the patches are treated with honor and respect for it is a great privilege to have the right to wear the group's emblem and call it their own.

Bull Riding is a Dangerous Sport

There is a lot of talk going on today about football, hockey and boxing being a dangerous sport. The sport of bull and bronc riding has to be a dangerous sport compared to football, hockey and boxing. Why is rodeo bull riding so dangerous?

These bull riders may only be on the bull for only a couple of seconds, but a couple of seconds is all it takes to have your face smashed in by the bulls head. Other bull riders have been, dragged, stomped on, and landed on by, bulls. Keep in mind that these bulls weigh anywhere from 1,000 to nearly 2,000 pounds of solid angry muscle.

Bull riding is a dangerous sport, because a 1,000-pound bull could throw a cowboy fifteen to twenty feet in the air with nothing but the solid ground to fall on. Not only that after you fall you have an angry bull charging after you at full speed, and if he gets a hold of you, it is most of the time game over.

Bull Riding is a Dangerous Sport

There has been talk that after some cowboy's are injured they still want to get back on a bull and ride again. However, after cracking heads with a 1,000 pound animal many bull riders never want to see another bull again. On the other hand, some bull riders live for the adrenaline rush that comes from riding bulls, and often times heal up, then you see then right back out there riding bulls again.

Bull riding is a dangerous sport, because you see there is a rope, that is, tied underneath the bull and your hand is, wrapped in this rope. So therefore, if you are, thrown off the bull and your hand is, caught in the rope. You could be, dragged under the bull and stomped severely, before you can get your hand loose.

However, you are not the only one in the arena when this happens; there are rodeo clowns that have been, trained to taunt the bull to get it to stop. On the other hand, the rodeo clowns will keep the bull away from you, after you have been, thrown on the ground.

These people put their lives on the line on a daily basis, and are at a much greater risk then the cowboy bull rider is, however, they are not the ones climbing on a 1,000-pound bull. Now, that you have discovered why bull riding is so dangerous. You see why there are a select few, which will actually get on the bull and hang on for the entire 8 seconds.

Wyoming State Fair and Rodeo in Douglas

It's amazing that the small community of Douglas, Wyoming hosts the State Fair each year in mid August. This town usually contains only 5,000 people, but when fairtime rolls around that number swells. An interesting feature is the North Platte River which happens to run through the town and provides a great place for visitors to picnic or simply get out the fishing pole. Visitors to the fair can find free parking south of the grounds on Brownfield Road.

The fair has recently undergone a bit of a remodeling and in the 2006 state fair new facilities were unveiled. They have a much larger livestock pavilion, a multipurpose livestock exposition building, the special show center, and a multi-purpose swine show facility.

At the state fair you can find lots of exhibits including a hobby collection of sheep exhibits, antique machinery contest, professional arts classes, quilting contests, goat shows, and the biggest vegetables that can be found for miles around Douglas.

Wyoming State Fair and Rodeo in Douglas

Some fun competitions to watch are the Jack Russell Terrier Races and the Pigs 'n Mud Wrestling in the Grandstand. The Rubber Chicken Race puts a unique perspective on the relay race. Teams of 3 to 5 people will relay a rubber chicken to each other after racing a lap on a specific vehicle. The first lap is done on saddled horseback, the second on bare horseback; the third on a bicycle, the fourth on a 4-wheeler, and the last is done by a team of two, with one person being pushed to the finish line in a wheelbarrow.

Comedy in all its varied forms is present at the fair as well. You can watch free shows by comedic magicians, a funny Hypnotist, a clown, and there is even an A Capela comedy singing group.

Cowgirl Outfits - How Women Dressed In The Old West

The experience of women in the Old West was markedly different from that of men. Although they worked as long and hard as men, they were still expected to dress and behave like "proper" gentlewomen. For example, a real lady rode a horse only on a side saddle. The sight of a woman riding astride a horse would cause quite a stir.

Although women were expected to spend their energy tending homes for their families, some did get a taste of cowboy life in the early trail days. Sometimes ranchers' wives managed the family cattle business when their husbands were away, or after the men had died. Unmarried daughters sometimes became "cow women" and ranchers in their own right.

A few young women became cowhands or traveled as cowgirls with the Wild West shows. Others went on to become champion athletes in rodeos. As a result, they modified their attire. Cowgirl outfits began to take on a slightly different look. Skirts became shorter and more detailed. After all, these women were now in show biz.

Cowgirl Outfits - How Women Dressed In The Old West

There have been women bronc riders, bull riders, steer wrestlers and trick ropers and riders since the early 1900s. Women's events, however, were and continue to be separated from the men's competitions because women usually needed lighter animals than men.

One of the most popular events women participate in is barrel-riding. It takes a well-trained horse and a skilled rider to travel in a cloverleaf pattern around the barrels at top speed.

Other cowgirl events include riding a course slalom-style in the pole-bending race. There's also a trail course, where riders complete a series of tasks, like opening a gate while on horseback. Or, there's the goat-tying competition, where the contestant has to ride up to a goat, dismount and tie together three of its legs.

Unlike the early days, cowgirl clothing is very similar to cowboy clothing. Cowgirls wear pants, shirts, vests, boots and hats just as their counterparts do. And it's not uncommon to see cute cowgirl skirts and dresses as well.
